Today

It has been a couple of months since I have written a new post. When I realized I had lost the joy in writing or felt like my inspiration was gone, I started thinking about what had been going on in my life. I realized that I have let myself become a part of a life where people are always stressed and busy, agenda’s are always full and no one really notices anything or anyone anymore. We are all focused on one thing: getting ourselves to the future. One, we think, will be better, where we will finally have figured ourselves out and have achieved our dreams. But the reality is, I realized, that there is no better future, we won’t have figured ourselves out or achieved our dreams if we don’t put our focus on TODAY. Because, really, TODAY is all we have. We do not have the assurance that tomorrow will come. We all hope it, yet life can sometimes work out differently.
Just think about the plane that got shot down above the Ukraine recently. I’m sure those people weren’t planning on dying that day. They still had goals to achieve and a future to live. One girl, I heard, had just graduated from college! I’m sure she wanted to actually start working in the area that she learned for.
And that is when it really sank in that our focus on life is wrong. And I decided to start changing the way I view life. Instead of worrying where I will be in two years or what will happen to us, I want to focus on the ‘today’ that has been given to me. Each new day is a new gift with its own surprises and miracles and trials. If I can start seeing today as a gift and focussing on the things that come across my path today, I will be a more content person. I will be ready for whatever tomorrow may bring because I have lived my today to the fullest and enjoyed every moment of it.
We aren’t formed in our future. We aren’t formed in our dreams or wishes. We are formed in our today. Today is what we have and what we are faced with. Today is where we can bring changes, where we can build bridges and live life to the fullest.

True. I would sincerely wish I also wasn’t part of the stress and the full agendas from todays society. I agree that today is the only moment I really have an influence on. A lovely topic to reflect on. My compliments to the author, the writing is not only profound, it is also well written.

True that we have only today, but I still keep future in the focus so I know on which I decisions I need to make for not getting side tracked. Love you!
